Every year I have been a stick in the mud about Valentines Day. With this dorky Hallmark Holiday, I have played the "compulsive complainer" role year-after-year. But this year I took a different outlook. I decided that although somewhat cheesy, Valentines Day is still a great reminder to tell the person you adore, just how much you truly adore them. It's not about gifts. It's not about a fancy dinner. It's about spending time with the person you love, and taking the day to go above and beyond, to show them you care.
With this new outlook on V-day, I found myself doing the dorky little things, and actually enjoying it! I made chocolates, decorated a card, bought mimosa supplies, and set up for a big surprise! And while it might not all have gone like I pictured, it actually went BETTER. With way more laughs, way more love, and a way better outcome than I could have ever imagined.
Valentines Day was great. Not because of the gifts I received, but the thoughts that went into the gifts. Not because the food or drinks I enjoyed, but the person I got to enjoy them with. Valentines Day wasn't about Valentines Day at all... it was about spending time with the person I most enjoy spending time with; and that in and of itself makes for an amazing day!
I'm still smiling. And what a dorky, cheesy, somewhat stupid holiday it is.... and dare I admit that this cheese-ball-of-a-holiday caught my attention and turned me into a hopeless romantic for the weekend?!! Well, truth be told, I guess it did just that...
Oh well, I'm not ashamed...
Valentines Day kicked ass,
and for all the right reasons. :)
